How University of Tronto became a pariah of a community Print

Today's Toronto Star published a very eloquent article entitled "Sky falling at once-proud University of Toronto about the current situation facing the Richmond Hill community just north of Toronto, which succumbed to the wrath of University of Toronto's lawyers. The story is long an complex, and the Star's article talks nothing of the underhanded way in which University of Toronto obtained the title to the lands, but it does shed some light on how low our educational institutions have sunk in Ontario. They have become nothing less than corporations with no morals or obligations except to .. well, no one, not even shareholders. Ask any 1st year university student and they will tell you what the university thinks of them - words like cattle and funding come to mind. And now University of Toronto has shown that it not only appears to be a profit-driven heartless corporation, it can also act like one towards an entire community. Shame.
